We stay for the other half. Four things that happen when a broker is on the account.
Two handyman businesses can take very different jobs. These details help make the quote useful.
Describe repairs, installations and maintenance separately. Height, roofing, structural work and licensed trades can change eligibility, not just price.
Working alone, hiring employees and using subcontractors raise different questions. Bring estimated revenue, payroll and subcontractor costs.
Homes, occupied rentals and commercial properties can mean different contracts and risks. Include every state where you take jobs.
Compare limits, deductibles and exclusions alongside the premium. A lower payment can reflect less protection or different payment terms.
Tell us about prior work, insurance and claims. Starting a new business is different from starting a new trade. Make that distinction clear.
Bring the work you actually do, including the occasional jobs. We’ll help check how the insurance treats it.

Handyman insurance by state
The questions behind the quote request.
General liability is a common starting point for claims involving injuries to others or damage to their property. Tools, business driving and employee injuries need separate coverage checks. The right combination depends on your tasks, people, customer contracts and state rules. Tell your broker the full repair list, including occasional work, rather than relying on handyman as the only description.
Working alone does not remove the possibility of damaging a customer’s property or facing an injury claim. Your tools and business driving also remain worth reviewing. Workers’ comp treatment for an owner varies by state and business structure, and a customer may request coverage. Start with your work and contracts, not just your employee count.
Not automatically. Insurers can restrict particular tasks, and state or local rules may require a separate license. A policy does not give you permission to perform regulated work. Describe the exact work to your broker and check the licensing authority before accepting the job, even when the task looks small.
There is no single price for every repair business. Your tasks, location, revenue, payroll, claims and coverage choices affect the quote. A liability premium does not include every policy you might need. Ask for a comparison that shows exclusions, deductibles, full-term cost and payment terms as well as the monthly number.
Once coverage is confirmed, a certificate can show information from the policy. Send the property manager’s requirements first. Additional insured status and other requested terms must come from the policy or an endorsement, not wording added to the certificate. A certificate cannot create coverage the policy does not provide.
General liability is not the policy for your own stolen tools. Ask about tools and equipment coverage, including theft from a van, overnight storage, item limits and deductibles. Check the vehicle separately. Carrying tools in an insured van does not mean those tools are automatically insured.
Start online, then talk through your business with a licensed broker. Bring your task list, work locations, revenue, helpers and any customer insurance request. A current policy is useful if you already have one. We help compare available options and explain the differences. A submitted request is not bound coverage or an instant price.
Tell us about your work, or bring the policy you already have. One broker to help you see what comes next.
