What Arizona handyman businesses ask before choosing coverage.
No. Arizona’s statute includes conditions beyond price. A permit requirement, work forming part of a larger operation, advertising without the required unlicensed disclosure, and specified fire-safety or gas work can rule out the exemption. The statute also has special product-value provisions. Check the actual scope with ROC before bidding. Insurance does not override licensing requirements.
Arizona’s minor-work exemption is limited to qualifying projects with an aggregate price below $1,000, including labor and materials, subject to statutory details. A required permit, part of a larger project or restricted work can defeat the exemption. Advertising must disclose that you are not a licensed contractor.
Qualifying for a licensing exemption does not remove the risk of a customer injury or property damage claim. Review your task list and any customer’s limits and endorsements separately. If you need an ROC license, the contractor bond is a separate obligation, not liability coverage.
Arizona generally requires workers’ compensation for employers with workers, subject to statutory exceptions. Casual help and subcontractor labels need a closer look at the actual relationship. Ask about owner coverage and your obligations before someone joins you on a job.
There is no single price for every Arizona contractor. Your work, payroll or revenue, vehicles, claims history and coverage choices affect the quote. Two businesses in the same state can need different protection and pay different amounts. Riza helps compare available options, including limits, exclusions, deductibles and payment terms, so the monthly price is not the only thing you see. Tell us about your business or bring your current policy to start the conversation.
Yes. Bring your current policy and tell us what has changed in the business, whether that is more people, different jobs, new vehicles or a customer asking for higher limits. We help compare available options on coverage and price and explain the differences. You can decide whether to stay or switch. If you change policies, confirm the new coverage is effective before cancelling the old one so you do not create an unintended gap.
