good to know.

Straight answers for families.

What insurance does a wealthy family need?
Typically home insurance for each property, car insurance for every vehicle and driver, excess liability, valuables coverage, and workers’ comp for household staff. Many families also add flood, personal cyber and coverage for boats. The right mix depends on what you own and who’s in the household.
How do we insure a new teen driver?
Add them to your policy before they drive, usually assigned to a specific car. Good grades, driver training and a safer car can lower the cost. It’s also a good time to raise your excess liability limit, since new drivers raise a family’s liability risk.
Do we need workers’ comp for our nanny?
In many states, yes, and it’s often a good idea even where it isn’t required. It covers medical bills and lost wages if your nanny is hurt on the job. Rules vary by state and hours worked.
Is our vacation home covered by our main policy?
Usually not fully. A second home typically needs its own home policy, and it should be listed on your excess liability. Seasonal and rental use can change what’s covered, so tell your advisor how the home is used.
How often should we review our family’s insurance?
It depends on how often your household changes, but a good habit is at every renewal and after any big change: a new home, a renovation, a new driver, new staff, a major purchase or a move. Rebuild costs and liability needs change over time, and limits should keep up.
