Markets we place through.
The accidents behind the insurance question.
During a visit or after the job is done, the details matter. Here is what to ask about.
Customer property · General liability
The door is fixed. The floor is damaged.
An accident during a repair can cost more than the job itself. General liability may help with covered damage to a customer’s property.
We help check the difference between resulting damage and redoing your work, including exclusions for property you’re working on.
Injury to someone else
Your customer trips over the tool bag.
A customer or visitor can be injured around your work, even when the repair goes to plan.
General liability may help with covered bodily injury claims. It does not replace workers’ comp for your employees.
Completed work
The shelf comes down after you leave.
An installation can cause damage after the visit and the invoice are finished.
Replacing the shelf and damage to the customer’s furniture are different questions. Check completed-work terms, exclusions and policy dates.
Know the boundaries before the next job.
These checks matter just as much as the liability limit.
Placing the policy is half the job.

Price the work you do. Not just your job title.
Two handyman businesses can take very different jobs. These details help make the quote useful.
Describe repairs, installations and maintenance separately. Height, roofing, structural work and licensed trades can change eligibility, not just price.
Working alone, hiring employees and using subcontractors raise different questions. Bring estimated revenue, payroll and subcontractor costs.
Homes, occupied rentals and commercial properties can mean different contracts and risks. Include every state where you take jobs.
Compare limits, deductibles and exclusions alongside the premium. A lower payment can reflect less protection or different payment terms.
Tell us about prior work, insurance and claims. Starting a new business is different from starting a new trade. Make that distinction clear.
Your business needs more than liability alone.
Keep your own tools, driving and people in the conversation.
Your people
State rulesHiring help? Review employee injury coverage, owner options and the rules for people you pay as subcontractors.
Your vehicle
Between jobsThe supply run is part of the work. Check business driving, vehicle damage and use of vehicles your business doesn’t own.
Your tools
On the moveLook at protection for the gear you carry between jobs, including limits and conditions for theft from a vehicle.
Your business
Combined coverageA BOP can combine liability with business property coverage for eligible businesses. Check locations, tools away from the premises and exclusions separately.
A better renewal starts with the policy you already have.

Plain answers before the next job.
Handyman liability questions, answered plainly.
What does handyman general liability insurance cover?
It can address covered claims for bodily injury to others, property damage, and certain personal and advertising injuries. It may also provide defense for covered suits. It is not a catchall policy for your own injuries, tools or vehicle. The actual work, exclusions, limits and claim facts determine the answer.
Does liability insurance cover mistakes in my repair work?
A mistake is not automatically a covered loss. General liability is not a warranty that pays to redo every faulty repair. Resulting injury or property damage can be a separate coverage question, with exclusions for your work or property being worked on. Have the carrier review the policy and facts rather than promising the customer payment.
Am I covered for an accident after the job is finished?
Completed-operations protection may address certain injury or damage arising after your work is done. The policy’s dates, exclusions and the timing of injury or damage matter. Finishing a job or being paid does not settle coverage. When switching policies, ask about protection for past work before cancelling the old policy.
How much general liability does a handyman need?
There is no universal limit for every handyman business. Consider the property you work around, the jobs you accept, the available policies and any customer requirements. Compare both the per-occurrence limit and aggregate limits. A higher limit does not remove an exclusion, and a certificate cannot fix a mismatch between your work and the policy.
Can a property manager be an additional insured?
An available endorsement may provide that status, subject to its wording and conditions. Send the property manager’s agreement before you start work. Check who must be insured and whether the request includes completed operations. Listing the manager as a certificate holder is not the same thing as adding them as an insured.
Does handyman insurance include electrical and plumbing work?
Not automatically. Insurers can restrict particular tasks, and state or local rules may require a separate license. A policy does not give you permission to perform regulated work. Describe the exact work to your broker and check the licensing authority before accepting the job, even when the task looks small.
How do I compare handyman liability quotes?
Use the same task list, locations, revenue and subcontractor information. Then compare accepted operations, exclusions, limits, deductibles, endorsements and the full-term price. A cheaper policy can leave out work you regularly perform. Riza helps explain the differences before you choose. You can also start with the policy you already have.
