Arizona licenses plumbing contractors through the Registrar of Contractors in three groups: commercial C‑37, residential R‑37 and R‑37R, and dual CR‑37 and CR‑77 for both. Your class sets the work you can contract for, and older R‑37R subclass codes still show up on some licenses.

- C‑37
Commercial. All plumbing within property lines: water supply, venting and drainage, septic tanks and leach lines, roof leaders, lawn sprinklers, water conditioning, and pool piping and equipment.
- R‑37
Residential, with solar. Water and gas piping, water sprinkler fire protection and sewage treatment systems, with their fixtures and vents, plus solar. Includes every R‑37R subclass.
- R‑37R
Residential, without solar. Plumbing under the R‑37 scope, minus solar. It’s the residential half of the CR‑37 dual license.
- CR‑37
Dual. The C‑37 commercial and R‑37R residential scopes on one license.
- CR‑77
Dual, with solar. The C‑77 commercial plumbing including solar and R‑37 residential plumbing including solar scopes, on one license.
- Legacy R‑37R codes
Gas piping, sewers and drains, pool plumbing, solar liquid systems, central vacuum and fixture refinishing. No new licenses are issued. Existing ones stay on the record, and the work now sits inside R‑37.

C‑37 covers all plumbing within property lines on commercial work. The dual CR‑37 and CR‑77 cover it too, alongside homes.

Arizona requires the license bond, and workers’ comp from your first employee, whatever your class. The class changes the work we quote and what underwriters ask.

If your license shows a legacy R‑37R code, we map it to the current R‑37 scope on the submission, so the underwriter reads the work, not the code.
